New coach for UBC Heat Golf program

KELOWNA, BC –  The athletic department at UBC Okanagan’s campus continues to grow as the University has hired Terry Nicol, to grow the Heat’s nationally ranked varsity golf program to new heights.

Born and raised in Calgary Alberta, Terry has been swinging a golf club since the age of five, and has played competitively for 45 years, with a long history of success.  In 1973 Terry held the title of the Central Alberta Amateur and in subsequent years was the runner up in the City of Calgary Amateur. In 1977 held the Club Champion at the Inglewood Golf and Country Club in Calgary.  More recently, in 2009, Terry won the N'KMIP Senior Men's Tournament.

Terry, is currently teaching  at the Black Mountain Elementary School as the Physical Education teacher, he has been living in the Okanagan for 20 years with his wife and has three grown children. He graduated from the University of Calgary with his Bachelor’s in Physical Education and Education. 

A member of the Kelowna Golf and Country Club over the past few years, Terry has also become involved with the BC Golf Zone 2 Junior and Amateur/Senior Championship as one of the Directors.

“I’m Looking forward to the challenges of building a successful golf program, working with the young athletes, and making this the strongest team ever, ” says an excited new coach Terry Nicol. “With the Qualifying tournament only a few weeks away, I encourage all interested golfers to contact me immediately if they have any interest or questions whatsoever.”

Terry’s first goal will be to attract as many quality golfers as possible to the qualifying tournament the Heat host to help with the selection of the Varsity program.
