Wingfield On Ice

The Wingfield Cycle is a Canadian series of seven one-man plays - Letter from Wingfield Farm, Wingfield's Progress, Wingfield's Folly, Wingfield Unbound, Wingfield on Ice, Wingfield's Inferno and "Wingfield Lost and Found" - written by Dan Needles, directed by Douglas Beattie and performed by Rod Beattie. They tell the story of Walt Wingfield, a stock broker-turned-farmer living in a fictional small town in Ontario called Persephone Township and his various misadventures while trying to make a living in the agriculture business. The plays progress as a series of letters written by Walt to his friend, the editor of the Larkspur newspaper. The plays were later collected and edited into a series of half-hour television shows, which were essentially video recordings of the plays. Check out the short video clip.

Deadmau5

Joel Thomas Zimmerman (born January 5, 1981), better known by his stage name Deadmau5 (stylized as deadmau5; pronounced "dead mouse"), is a Canadian progressive, electro, and house producer based in Toronto, Ontario. This Canadian re-work wizard is an assured purveyor of infectious beats. What Deadmau5 is doing for techno is kind of what the Ramones did for rock and roll about 30 years ago. Joel Zimmerman is revolutionizing electronic music, and his music is a testament that proves it. Check out his show in K-Town back in July.

Wednesday Open Mic @ Avenue

We have been featuring a few artists here at whatsupkelowna.com and really want to spread the word on how much musical talent we really have here in this amazing city. Tonight is open mic down at Avenue. If you haven't checked this place out you should. Last week Josh Racho , Almost A Few, and at least half a dozen more musicians got up to impress. Come down around 8:00, enjoy a cold brew, and be sure to ask about the ridiculous flair bar tending skills of Mr. Cam Brown.

Jacob Moon

What's Up Kelowna! Well, I saw this video the other night and I just had to post it. Jacob Moon is a singer/songwriter from Ontario, but he deserves this recognition. Turn the volume way up and enjoy his version of Subdivisions by Rush. This is truly incredible. If you read our posts in the morning, this will surely start your day off with a grin!

Shakespeare Kelowna

Shakespeare Kelowna presents a "readers" version of A Christmas Carol. Enjoy the story telling of A Christmas Carol.

Dreamland Sender. Day at the 50 footer.

For those who don't know, these local riders have it pretty figured out. Private space. No restrictions. In fact..it doesn't appear they have many rules at all. They build what they want, and slaughter as they please. Watch the hammers get dropped and remember a warmer time of the year.

Video produced by Matt Butterworth ( Who else? Does this guy sleep? )

Avenue A Classic Bar

Check out this Avenue Grand Opening video courtesy of Andy Holmes. What's Up Kelowna will be showcasing local talent at Avenue so stay tuned.

Scott Thielmann Guitar Virtuoso

If you have a passion for guitar music, you live in Kelowna, and you have never heard of Scott Thielmann, then you are in for one amazing experience. Scott is considered one of the preeminent guitar players in this valley. I would safely say he is probably one of the best guitar players I have ever seen! Scott is a master of both the electric and acoustic guitar. Scott was part of the well know duo "The Flying Takameenies" group of Kelowna for many years, but now he fly's solo. Sit through 5 minutes of Scott, and you will be absolutely blown away! The video after the bump is a performance of Scott at the Helping Hands For Haiti fundraiser. In the future, we hope to post a few more videos of Scott (if we can find more) in action so stay tuned.
Scott is currently playing at the Blue Gator on Wednesday nights for the month of December and January.

Almost A Few / Avenue Open Mic

Almost A Few are self taught guitar players with a passion for making nice noise. They started playing together in Alberta before moving to British Columbia where they found instant inspiration from the beauty of the Okanagan. Combining classical guitar with blues undertones, Almost A Few take listeners on a melodic journey. Sit back and enjoy!
