The final Snowboard Cross and Slopestyle events of the BC Snowboard Provincial Series are happening this weekend at Big White Ski Resort in the TELUS Park – March 11 to 13. Big White boasts one of the best-known tracks and parks on the provincial circuit.
The Snowboard Cross event will feature a FIS category for those athletes looking to qualify for Nationals, being held at Lake Louise in early April.
There is also an Open category in the Snowboard Cross – athletes are randomly sorted in their age groups (male/female). The athletes compete in head to head heats with the top 2 athletes moving forward to the next round, and the remaining athletes moving to a last chance qualifier ('LCQ') round. The LCQ format allows new and up-and-coming athletes to compete against athletes in their own age group in a head to head Heat situation (4 riders on course). All athletes in the LCQ format will get a minimum of 2 runs in a Heat situation.
The age groups are:
14 and under
15 to 18
19 and over
30 and over - (new this year)
In the Slopestyle event, athletes are earning international Ticket To Ride (TTR) points, as well as FIS points for those athletes holding a FIS license. The event is held in the TELUS Park at Big White on Sunday, with opening training on Saturday. The athletes are judged by 4 FIS certified judges in an overall ranking. The results are then sorted to award the athletes by age group (male/female) being: 14 and under; 15 to 18; 19 and over.
Spectators welcome! Come and cheer on BC's top amateur Snowboard athletes and our future 'stars in the making'!
