· Alex Roth 20 pts.
· Mack Roth 12 pts.
ABBOTSFORD, BC In the first game back after a layoff that hasn’t seen the Heat play a meaningful game since November 27, Heat guard Alex Roth felt no ill effects from the layoff as his hot shooting led the Heat to a 73-34 victory over the hometown Columbia Bible College Bearcats. Roth couldn’t miss in the first quarter as he notched 10 points on a perfect 4/4 from the field including 2 three pointers. Roth went on to lead the Heat in the game as he finished up with 20 for the game. Alex’s brother Mack added 12 points for the night good enough for second on the Heat.
The real story of the game for the Heat was the defensive effort put out as they held the Bearcats to a scant 34 points in the game forcing CBC to a 23% shooting percentage. The Heat forced the Bearcats into 23 turnovers as Alex Roth sparked the defensive end with 6 steals.
“The first game is always a little ugly when you get back from the break,“ added coach Darren Semeniuk, “we tried to be the aggressors on the defensive end right from the tip off in an attempt to play with energy. Sometimes a game plan works out, today it did for us, and we were able to keep the momentum on the defensive end up for the full forty minutes by utilizing every player on the roster and spreading out the minutes with quick shifts.”
