Thursday, February 3rd, 7-9pmWe're pleased to announce Okanagan artist,
Karla Doell’s solo debut at
SOPA. If we had to categorize or define this newest body of work from Karla Doell in
Tagged, it could be called 'photographic montage' or 'compositing' as many in the industry refer to this type of collage. Using layers of graffiti she's unearthed in her travels, and her own photographic imagery, Doell digitally manipulates every piece until the composition becomes a harmonious balance of layers. She considers presentation an important element in her art, particularly in her photographic work. By using metal panels to provide a materiality; Doell successfully incorporates a slightly textured, matt finish that offers warmth and character. In this way, the artwork avoids the standard drawbacks that traditional photography under glass presents.
