UBC Athletics Media Release

Caitlin Nyhus - BCCAA Athlete of the Week

KELOWNA, BC – Caitlin Nyhus showed over the course of the weekend once again why she is the premier setter in the BCCAA. Nyhus and her UBC Okanagan Heat played host to the Island teams, the Camosun Chargers and Vancouver Island University Mariners. On Friday night, Nyhus would lead her team to a 3-0 victory over Camosun.

In addition to running a great offense, 7 points (2 kills, 2 blocks, 3 aces), Nyhus also chipped in for 4 digs. On Saturday, it all came down to the final regular season match and a first place showdown against the Vancouver Island University Mariners. Nyhus did not disappoint as she was rock solid in her final regular season appearance with 5 points and led the Heat defense with 14 digs. The win clinched the regular season title and moved the Heat back into the #1 rank in the CCAA.

Nyhus has been a mainstay of the Heat’s starting lineup now for almost half a decade, and it has been a very successful time. In her first two seasons, this Penticton Secondary graduate led the Heat to two BCCAA silver medals and a CCAA bronze. She has backed that up with two consecutive Provincial and National titles in her 3rd and 4th years of eligibility.

The Heat will now sit back and wait to see which team they will face off against in a February 25th Semi Final at home, as the provincials championships are being hosted by UBC Okanagan and run February 24-26.
