KELOWNA, BC – The UFV Cascades Men’s team is headed home after Thursday’s match against the Columbia Bible College, being swept by the Bearcats 3-0 at UBC Okanagan (25-23, 25-19, 25-19). CBC’s Danny Grant and UFV’s Aaron Flanagan were named Players of the Match for their respective teams.
Will Quiring from CBC led the match with 12 kills. Grant finished with a match-high 3 blocks, two of which came in the 3rd set off a pair of long and exciting rallies. An effective defense kept the Bearcats ahead in tight rallies, as the team combined for 23 digs (compared to UFV’s 17). CBC’s attack was much more efficient than UFV’s, hitting 37 kills off of 70 attempts (15 errors), compared to UFV’s 24 and 73 (18 errors).
The quarter-final matchup was the first of the Men’s bracket in the 2011 BCCAA Championships. With the Cascades eliminated from playoff contention, the Bearcats advance to Friday’s semi-final matchup with the UBC Okanagan Heat.
