UBC Okanagan Heat Vollyball Provincial Championships

Capilano Blues advance to Provincial Semi-final with victory over CBC

KELOWNA, BC – The 3rd seeded Capilano Blues Women’s team eliminated the Columbia Bible College Bearcats from the 2011 BCCAA Volleyball Provincials Championships in the tournaments opening match Thursday afternoon. The Bearcats lost 3 sets to none (25-19, 25-19, 25-10) at UBC Okanagan.
Michelle Torresan led a potent Blues attack, finishing with a match-high 9 kills en route to victory.  Kendra Thomson and Rachel Unger finished with 7 and 6, respectively.  No CBC player had more than 4 kills.  Ashley Cousens of the Blues orchestrated the Blues’ attack to the tune of 27 assists.

Player of the match for Capilano was third year outside hitter, Kendra Thomson, for CBC the player of the match was first year setter Anna Cupido.

The quarter-final matchup opened the 2011 BCCAA Championships, and winner Capilano will now play in a semi-final matchup with Vancouver Island University on Friday at 1:00pm.  With the win against CBC the Blues have guaranteed themselves two more matches and the continued chance at bringing home hardware.
