Despite some errant shooting and a series of steals by both sides in the first half, the Heat maintained a lead throughout the frame, pushing it to 12 points at the 4:24 mark before the Kermodes slashed the lead all the way to 3. Heat guard Madison Kaneda gave her team a pick me up just before half by nailing a 2 for the Heat with several seconds to go to put the score at 36-31.
Throughout the 3rd quarter Madison Kaneda continued to impress with her contribution of both offensive and defensive rebounds for the Heat, making herself an integral part of the Heat scoring machine. In an attempt to regain composure the Kermodes took a timeout late in the quarter to no avail as the Heat's hi octane offense wore down the Quest defenders. Early in the 4th the Kermodes' Cassidy Osterling scored several 3s in an effort to bring her team back into the game, yet Madison Kaneda and Jenna Kantz answered with buckets of their own, starting with Kaneda scoring an early 3 off a Kantz assist that had the Heat up 62-48. Not to be outdone, in the middle of the 4th Kantz made an impressive steal at half court taking it all the way to the rim for a basket to put the Heat even further ahead, 66-51.
The final buzzer sounded with the Heat coming out victorious, winning 78-56. As the team gathered in a postgame huddle Jenna Kantz finally let herself get out of game mode and started to cry while being hailed by her team.
In a special postgame ceremony, Athletics Director Rob Johnson and Head Coach Heather Semeniuk praised Jenna's excellence in both athletics and academics, noting her ever positive attitude and strong work ethic on and off the court, giving a nod to her incredible 95% average in her studies at UBC. Jenna finished her BCCAA career with an astounding 862 points, adding 46 points to the all-time scoring record that she had already captured after playing the UNBC Timberwolves last weekend. She also had a career 418 rebounds and 276 assists.
The Heat will go to Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford for provincials from March 3rd to 5th.
