UBC Okanagan Heat hire new men’s soccer coach

KELOWNA, BC: The University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus’ Athletics Dept. has signed Dante Zanatta, a former British Columbia Soccer Association Staff Coach and Coach of the Year recipient, to guide the Heat men’s soccer program.
Zanetta has for the past three years, been employed as a full time staff coach with the British Columbia Soccer Association (BCSA) as well as a staff coach with the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) National Training Centre West. His roles with the BCSA included involvement with the Provincial Team Program, player and coach development programs, and for the past two years as Manager of District Development Centres and Grassroots Programs in the Province. His resume includes a very successful playing career and head coaching stints with Victoria United FC of the Pacific Coast Soccer League (PCSL) the Gorge, Division 1 men’s team of the Vancouver Island Soccer League where he guided the club to a national final in 2002.
“I would like to thank the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus for giving me the opportunity to head up the men's soccer program this coming season,” said Zanetta, adding, “I am really looking forward to the challenge of coaching in the BCCAA, and building a strong and competitive program for years to come.”
Rob Johnson, Director of Athletics and Recreation at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus is very pleased to have Zannatta join the Heat coaching staff. “I think this is a tremendous opportunity for the men’s soccer program. Dante brings lots of experience and has an excellent reputation within the provincial soccer community. We anticipate that these qualities will assist him in recruiting the high achieving student athletes necessary to have our men’s soccer program competing for provincial and national medals.”
